SIDO WELCOMED A NEW DIRECTOR GENERAL.
Due to some reforms that are taking place in some Public Organizations, the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Hon. Dr. John P. Magufuli has appointed Engineer Professor Silvester Mpanduji from Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) to be the new Director General of SIDO. Engineer Professor Silvester Mpanduji will be the fifth Director General since the establishment of Small Industries Development Organisation (SIDO) in 1973. The first Director General was Basil Mramba (1973 -1980), followed by Epaineto Toroka (1980 – 2002), then Mike Laiser ( 2002 – 2013) followed by Engineer Omari Bakari ( 2013 – July 2016). At SUA, Mpanduji was the head of department of Engineering and Land Planning. He holds a B.Sc. in Engineering from University of Dar es Salaam (EAT), 1986, MSc in Agricultural Engineering from University of Newcastle Upone Tyne (UK), 1988, and Ph. D holder in Agricultural Engineering from Technical University of Munich (Germany) 2000. His area of specialty is Mechanical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Management, Machinery design and Mechanization. He is also a member of registered Professional Engineer by Engineers Registration Board, 2011; member of Tanzania Society of Agricultural Engineers, 1990; Agricultural Engineer of University of New castle upon Tyne, UK 1988; Technical university of Munich, Germany 2000 and Mechanical Engineer of University of Dar es Salaam, EAT, 1986. Eng. Prof Silvester Mpanduji was introduced to SIDO staff and management by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Adelhelm Meru who was accompanied by the Director of Small Industries in the Ministry Dr. Consolata Ishebabi. The new Director General on his first remarks insisted on working together as a team and establishing closer relationship with each other so as to attain the vision of the fifth Government of building an economy of industries.
