“BUILDING A STRONG INDUSTRIAL ECONOMY START WITH DEVELOPMENT OF SMALL INDUSTRIES”, THE MINISTER OF INDUSTRY, TRADE AND INVESTMENT SAID.
The SIDO Coastal Zone Exhibition that was held at Mwanakalenge grounds in Bagamoyo, was officiated by Hon. Charles Mwijage (MP) the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment (MITI) on 28th October 2016. In his opening remarks, he urged MSMEs to establish their own small Industries. He said by doing so they will be positively contributing to the National aspiration of developing an industrial based economy. He gave an example of the people of the Republic of China, who have small industries at almost every corner of their premises. Sustainable development of the country should focus and be based on small industries, he added. He further said, active involvement in value addition activities through small industries especially in rural areas, stimulates other associated social and economic activities and therefore create gainful engagement of the people. By establishing small industries in rural areas, available raw materials will be added value, reduce the problem of post harvest losses, create jobs and of course income and thus bring a very big development impact to involved areas and the nation at large. He also encouraged entrepreneurs to be innovative by developing technological solutions by learning from what others have done. Technology adaptation and reverse- engineering can be applied to develop machines and equipment that suits their requirements and environment. He further urged graduates from secondary schools, vocational education centers, colleges and universities to join the SIDO incubator program and develop their innovative ideas into tangible products. The event involved exhibitors from Pwani, Lindi, Mtwara, Morogoro and Dar es salaam regions from 26th to 31st October 2016. The event was officially closed by Hon. Eng. Evarist Ndikilo, the Regional Commissioner of Pwani, who congratulated all the exhibitors for the display of their improved products. He urged MSMEs to use the exhibition events whenever they are for not only selling their products but also use the opportunity to learn from each other. He insisted on innovation, quality and proper packaging as the only way to make their products and services to stand out above others. Both the Minister and the Regional Commissioner congratulated SIDO for organizing the event, but also on its efforts of promoting MSMEs products. The Director General of SIDO, Eng. Prof. Sylvester Mpanduji assured the MSMEs to continue providing the support in technology development; proving them with various entrepreneurial capacity building training; promoting their products through various exhibitions and other organized events; providing them with credit services which include linking them with other financial institutions.
