The SIDO Coastal Zone Exhibition that was held at Mwanakalenge grounds in Bagamoyo, was officiated by Hon. Charles Mwijage (MP) the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment (MITI) on 28th October 2016. In his opening remarks, he urged MSMEs to establish their own small Industries. He said by doing so they will be positively contributing to the National aspiration of developing an industrial based economy. He gave an example of the people of the Republic of China, who have small industries at almost every corner of their premises. Sustainable development of the country should focus and be based on small industries, he added. He further said, active involvement in value addition activities through small industries especially in rural areas, stimulates other associated social and economic activities and therefore create gainful engagement of the people. By establishing small industries in rural areas, available raw materials will be added value, reduce the problem of post harvest losses, create jobs and of course income and thus bring a very big development impact to involved areas and the nation at large.
He also encouraged entrepreneurs to be innovative by developing technological solutions by learning from what others have done. Technology adaptation and reverse- engineering can be applied to develop machines and equipment that suits their requirements and environment. He further urged graduates from secondary schools, vocational education centers, colleges and universities to join the SIDO incubator program and develop their innovative ideas into tangible products. The event involved exhibitors from Pwani, Lindi, Mtwara, Morogoro and Dar es salaam regions from 26th to 31st October 2016.
