GOVERNMENT IS COMMITTED TO SUPPORT FOOD PROCESSING
A Food Processing Training Of Trainers (TOT) course was undertaken at SIDO Regional Office in Dar Es Salaam recently. Participants who were from SIDO regional offices learnt many skills on different recipes of food products. The training was officially closed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Ms Joyce Mapunjo. On her closing statement she commended SIDO for their strategies of reducing poverty through kilimo kwanza where by 90% of the Tanzanian population are engaged thereby contributing about 30% of National GDP and 20% employment. Commenting on the packaging materials, she said that the government will make sure that packaging materials are available up to the district level. Answering some of the questions from participants about contribution of the Ministry to food processors, she said that the Ministry is not only in the processing but also in assisting provision of infrastructure of food processing centers from regional to district level. The training was facilitated by four trainers led Dr. Anne Perera a Food specialty from New Zealand.
